Prince William’s heartbreaking explanation for not liking Meghan Markle from the start

The relationship between Prince William and Meghan Markle was strained from the beginning, contributing to the growing rift between William and his brother, Prince Harry. According to Robert Lacey’s book *Battle of the Brothers*, William felt that Meghan was not only pulling Harry away from him but also showed little respect for royal traditions. Concerns were raised early on, with William allegedly perceiving Meghan as having an agenda, and these feelings of mistrust deepened over time.

The situation deteriorated further after Harry and Meghan’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, where they made several serious accusations against the Royal Family. The interview, followed by their Netflix documentary and Harry’s memoir *Spare*, highlighted the tensions within the family, particularly focusing on the strained relationship between Meghan and Kate Middleton. Harry’s memoir revealed personal details, including a disagreement between Meghan and Kate, which fueled the divide.

The book suggests that William was deeply hurt by the strain Meghan placed on his relationship with Harry, leading him to express his concerns to Harry even before the couple got engaged. According to a Kensington Palace insider, Meghan was seen by some within the royal household as a bully and manipulative, which only added to William’s reservations.

The Oprah interview and subsequent revelations marked a turning point in the brothers’ relationship. William reportedly felt betrayed by Harry’s public airing of private family matters, which included claims about William and Kate’s behavior toward Meghan. The brothers’ relationship has deteriorated to the point where they reportedly have not spoken since the release of Harry’s memoir.

Royal experts have noted that William has taken a firm stance against Harry’s potential return to royal duties, effectively “banning” him from rejoining the royal fold in any meaningful way. This decision reflects the depth of William’s hurt and the seemingly unbridgeable gap between the two brothers.
