As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle embark on their four-day tour of Colombia, a royal expert has revealed that palace staff are expressing frustration and bewilderment over the couple’s decision to visit a country with a high terrorist threat and alarming crime rates.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are no longer working royals, intend to continue conducting royal-style tours overseas in a non-official capacity. Their Colombia tour, which focuses on promoting digital literacy and raising awareness about mental health issues, has raised eyebrows among senior royal and palace staff.

According to Colombia’s Vice President Francia Márquez, the couple will visit schools and engage with local communities to promote the importance of digital literacy and raise awareness about mental health concerns. However, not everyone is pleased with this semi-regal tour, with senior royals and palace staff expressing concern about the safety risks involved.

Royal author Tom Quinn stated, “The news of Harry and Meghan’s tour of Colombia has caused bewilderment, concern, and some irritation among senior royals in the UK. The view is that Meghan and Harry are desperate to maintain their brand and relevance, and are recklessly prepared to visit one of the most dangerous countries in the world.”

Colombia has a notorious reputation for its high terrorist threat, as well as skyrocketing rates of abduction incidents. The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has warned British citizens to “reconsider” traveling to the country unless absolutely essential.

Quinn continued, “There have been grumbles amongst members of staff that Colombia is pretty much the only country that would have Meghan and Harry. Senior Royals in the UK would have declined an invitation to visit a country where security is difficult to maintain. They are also worried that the Firm will be blamed for not trying to stop the tour should anything happen to Meghan and Harry while they are in Colombia.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s visit to Colombia aims to highlight the country’s role as a beacon of culture and innovation. During their stay, they will immerse themselves in the country’s arts and culture scene, visiting the capital city of Bogotá, as well as Cartagena and Cali, before meeting with Colombia’s Invictus Games team.
