The rift between Prince William and Prince Harry appears to be deepening, with little sign of reconciliation on the horizon. According to recent reports, Prince William is reportedly “adamant” that his younger brother will not be welcomed back into the royal fold. The relationship between the two brothers has been strained since Prince Harry stepped away from his royal duties to start a new life in California with Meghan Markle. The situation has only been exacerbated by the release of Harry’s memoir, *Spare*, which has caused significant friction within the family.

The memoir, published in January 2023, included several controversial claims that have reportedly upset Prince William. Harry accused his older brother of calling Meghan Markle “difficult,” “rude,” and “abrasive.” Additionally, Harry alleged that William had physically confronted him, pushing him into a dog bowl. The book also included allegations that King Charles harbored jealousy towards the Prince and Princess of Wales, and that Charles had denied Meghan the opportunity to be by her husband’s side as Queen Elizabeth II was dying.

The brothers’ last known interaction occurred at their grandmother’s funeral in September 2022, where, according to Harry’s memoir, their conversation was minimal. This encounter marked a low point in their relationship, which had been fraught with tension for months. Speculation has persisted about whether the brothers might eventually mend their relationship, but royal expert Michael Cole suggests that reconciliation is unlikely. Cole believes that William remains resolute in his stance against Harry, particularly due to the perceived affronts detailed in *Spare*.

Cole noted that William’s reaction is rooted in two major issues: the criticism of his wife, Catherine, and the broader personal attacks. “What [men] cannot put up with are two things which they cannot abide with,” Cole explained. “Their driving ability, and they certainly cannot allow their wife to be criticized.” This sentiment underscores the depth of the current estrangement between the brothers.

In the meantime, Prince Harry is set to continue his public engagements. After a tour in Colombia with Meghan Markle, Harry will travel to New York for a solo event focused on his charitable work. While this visit coincides with the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, a key event for William, the Prince of Wales is not expected to attend this year, potentially avoiding any uncomfortable encounters.

Reports suggest that William is unlikely to forgive Harry for the criticism of Kate Middleton or extend an invitation for Harry to attend significant future events such as William’s coronation. Sources close to William have indicated that the Prince’s current focus remains on his immediate family—his wife and children—rather than on mending ties with his estranged brother.

The ongoing estrangement is viewed as deeply regrettable by those close to the royal family, highlighting the personal and public challenges that the brothers face. As both continue to navigate their separate paths, it remains uncertain if they will find common ground in the future.
